Bom, obviamente há uma expressão equivalente na língua inglesa para se referir a um erro ou gafe que cometemos e nos sentimos envergonhados com vontade de cavar um buraco no chão e nos escondermos nele.

A melhor equivalência para dizer "pagar um mico" é “TO MAKE A FOOL (out) OF ONESELF” ou “TO MAKE A FOOL OUT OF ONESELF”.
