DIFERENÇA ENTRE ‘AT THE END’ E ‘IN THE END’

No vídeo anterior falamos sobre a diferença entre ‘at the beginning’ e ‘in the beginning’, hoje falaremos do final com ‘at the end’ e ‘in the end’.

At the End

“At the end” se refere a parte final de qualquer coisa/substantivo, como rua, livro, filme, evento etc. Este substantivo pode ser um objeto físico, um período de tempo, um evento, um lugar, ou alguma coisa mais abstrata como a paciência de alguém.

Já ouviu falar da expressão: to be at the end of one’s rope?

I can’t stand my boss anymore. I’m at the end of my rope. (estou com minhas energias esgotadas)

Como você pode perceber ‘at the end’ vem acompanhado da preposição of.

**At the end (of) No fim (de), no final (de), ao final (de)**

Nós temos ‘at the beginning of the book’ e também ‘at the end of the book’

Significa finalmente (depois de considerar algum tempo), por fim (de modo final), no fim, no final ou no final das contas.

Também é usado quando você quer dar a impressão de que chegou a uma conclusão depois de ter considerado algo por algum tempo; depois de ter pensado em algo por algum tempo, ou chegou a uma conclusão com base na sua própria experiência. Também você pode usar ‘in the end’ para falar do efeito/resultado do final de uma ação.

Na escrita, ‘In the end’ geralmente é acompanhado de uma vírgula.

In the end, we decided not to buy it.

No final/Por fim, resolvemos não comprar.

(Depois de ter pensando por algum tempo, decidimos não comprar).
